Active Broadband Networks, a Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) solutions provider, and Allied Telesis, a global provider of secure IP/Ethernet switching solutions, Tuesday announced a joint hybrid cloud solution that brings together Active Broadband's Software-Defined Broadband Network Gateway (SD-BNG) with Allied Telesis' EtherGRID™ application hybrid cloud delivery platform, a solution targeted for smaller Operators.

Active Broadband's Software-Defined Broadband Network Gateway (SD-BNG) connects edge services directly to the cloud using existing access infrastructure, enabling operators to deliver connectivity, network, infrastructure and applications services from a uniform platform, unlocking service opportunities and reducing costs. Allied Telesis' EtherGRID™ is a next-generation hybrid cloud platform designed for enterprises and Communication Service Providers (CSPs) that want to leverage cloud technology principles across their own infrastructure versus as a pure public cloud play.

Both companies will demonstrate the solution at the ongoing Light Reading's Big Telecom Event in Chicago.

Adam Dunstan, co-founder and CEO of Active Broadband Networks
Software democratizes broadband networking, and by leveraging EtherGRID™ with our SDN software, we can make the benefits of next-generation technology available to a greater range of service providers. Existing BNG vendors' platforms have focused on scale that only benefits very large operators. This combined solution unlocks tremendous functionality and efficiency that can result in meaningful competitive advantage for all operators.

Philip Yim, senior vice president of Global Program Management at Allied Telesis
Our goal is to provide customers a roadmap to transform their current business model and take advantage of new cloud-based solutions. By deploying an EtherGRID™ with AMF/SDN and NFV features customers can realize greater network efficiency and improved QoE, as well as rapidly deploy new applications.
