Accuris Networks via its AccuROAM™ platform extends high-capacity seamless and secure Wi-Fi service to previously challenging environments like the air, the ocean and remote locations. Aircell, a Gogo company and leading provider of in-flight connectivity equipment and services to business aviation has selected AccuROAM to roll out Gogo Text & Talk, the first service that lets air travellers perform end-to-end calling and texting on their smartphones using Wi-Fi as if they were on the ground. The new solution which can be integerated to GSM and CDMA networks, can now serve other extreme locations such as shipping fleets, oil rigs and remote military installations.
"Our solution has the unique ability to enable cellular service in places where it has been difficult due to cost or licensing issues," explained David Reeder, VP Business Development and Sales North America at Accuris Networks. "We expect to partner with other service providers to open up new corners of the world to monetize Wi-Fi." "This technology gives users an experience that's the closest on the market to how they would use their smartphones in their land-based environments," continued David Reeder. "We'd be surprised if any service provider that wants to create new revenue streams in remote places where mobile coverage is expensive or extremely difficult would find a less costly, more effective platform than AccuROAM."
