Reliance Communications(RCOM) and its subsidiary Global Cloud Xchange (GCX) has launched a new global Software-Defined WAN (SD-WAN) solution. Cloud X WAN is an evolution of GCX’s existing hybrid WAN service which the Operator claims already connects more than 20,000 locations to a global MPLS network via the Internet.
The latest addition to its Cloud X portfolio will provide cloud-based managed services globally across the company’s proprietary CLOUD X platform, a leading edge Cloud ecosystem and multi-service orchestration platform implemented in key hubs along GCX’s Global subsea network infrastructure.
Cloud X WAN’s centralized SD WAN architecture provides managed MPLS and SD WAN services as well as Virtualized Network Functions such as Virtual CPE & VPN, Virtual Firewall & Security, Virtual WAN Optimization and Storage as a Service across the GCX network.
Through Cloud X WAN, enterprises will be able to subscribe to network services on a “pay as you go” basis meaning their network infrastructure can be as agile as the Cloud services it connects into, said RCOM in a statement.
Bill Barney, CEO, RCOM (Enterprise) and GCX
In today’s market, it is evident that SD WAN is rapidly gaining momentum as it offers an innovative way to adapt traditional WANs to Cloud services. Cloud X WAN, was developed to address the market, offering an affordable solution which embraces flexibility, scalability and enhanced security.

A simple SD WAN router will form the basic building block, carrying out instructions from a centralized SD WAN controller. This device will perform key routing functions and other virtualized network services as selected in real-time in a portal by the customer.
