The journey towards a comprehensive SASE solution has been fraught with challenges, notably the premature creation of the market category before the existence of solutions meeting the criteria. This anomaly, highlighted by Gartner, has led to a situation where incumbent vendors attempt to retrofit their existing offerings into the SASE mold, further complicating the landscape.

Do we have a solution that truly fits the SASE paradigm? The answer, as it stands, is no. The emergence of Secure Service Edge (SSE) as a distinct category within the SASE framework does little to alleviate the confusion, serving instead to blur the lines between network security services.

For telecom operators, the SASE revolution presents an unparalleled opportunity. With their unique position at the intersection of network access and security, telecoms are poised to play a pivotal role in delivering a seamless SASE experience. However, this potential can only be realized through genuine innovation and collaboration, far removed from the current state of diluted SASE propositions.

Telcos are perpetually in search of innovative services to offer their clientele, with security consistently emerging as the top value addition. However, the full potential of these security services has often been hampered by a lack of seamless integration with the right security solutions. Given their unique infrastructural leverage, Telcos are in an unparalleled position to facilitate network access, making them indispensable players in the delivery of security solutions.

A true SASE solution, particularly one that can be deployed as near to the endpoint or resource as possible, that is software-defined, hardware agnostic, and designed from conception to optimize user experience, necessitates the active involvement of Telco Operators. It is within this domain that Telcos can truly differentiate themselves and underscore their value proposition. With the advantage of their network infrastructure, Telcos are not just participants but crucial influencers in the SASE ecosystem, having a significant impact on how security solutions are deployed and utilized by businesses. This involvement not only amplifies their service offerings but also positions Telcos as integral to the deployment of comprehensive, user-friendly SASE solutions that meet the evolving security demands of today's distributed workforce.

As we look towards the future, it's imperative to navigate the SASE landscape with clarity and purpose. The true essence of SASE lies in its ability to offer an integrated, seamless network security model that caters to the modern, distributed enterprise.
