Optus Debuts WiFi Calling in Australia with WiFi Talk

Optus has this week launched a new WiFi calling app - WiFi Talk - that allows customers to easily make and receive not only calls but also text messages over a WiFi connection, especially in areas where the mobile coverage is poor. The new app is available for Optus prepaid and postpaid customers with iPhone and Android handsets with iOS version 6 and Android version 4.0 and above.

With the WiFi Talk app, subscribers will be using their existing Optus mobile numbers for calls and texting without the need for a third party application or any other installation. Calls and texts using the app are charged to the subscriber’s mobile bill with the same inclusions and rates offered on their existing Optus mobile plan.

Optus recommends a minimum 100Kbps WiFi connection speed for users to enable them to use the service, and said that the service will be available at any WiFi hotspot.

Amanda Hutton, Optus Vice President of Customer Experience and Delivery
Optus is focused on giving our customers the best possible experience. WiFi Talk is an innovative solution to help customers stay connected easily if mobile coverage is limited indoors, whether at home, in the office, or even in places such as shopping centres. WiFi Talk is a simple way for Optus customers to stay connected where they have access to a WiFi connection. This is the first of many exciting developments for Optus in the WiFi calling space.
