Tele2 Russia, an alternative mobile operator, has announced that starting from the 20th August this year, tunes downloaded on its Gudok caller ringtone service will no longer incur any charges. The Gudok service will hence be provided on a daily subscription basis.

Under the revised terms, the Gudok service allows users to install an unlimited number of melodies for free without any validity period. The subscriber fee for the Gudok service ranges from 2 to 2.5 rubles (US$0.03) per day depending on the region.

The Operator said that iwill be the first among Russian mobile operators to provide all Gudok tunes for free, in addition to allowing unlimited number of tune changesThe Gudok service that was launched by Tele2 in 2008 still remains one of the most demanded entertainment services, added the Operator, recording installation of over 300,000 themes every month.

The Gudok service gives Tele2 subscribers an option to use songs or jokes instead of a regular dial tone that callers hear while waiting for the phone to be answered. The tunes are easy to manage: subscribers may not only create their own collection by compiling playlists, setting the time and day of the week for playing it but also copy tunes from their friends, exchange and load their files. All these additional options are also provided for free.
