Huawei has joined the MulteFire Alliance to join forces with other founding members such as Qualcomm, Nokia, Ericsson and Intel to accelerate the development of MulteFire technology.

Unlike LTE-Unlicensed (LTE-U) and Licensed Assisted Access (LAA) technologies which require an anchor in the licensed LTE spectrum to operate, enterprises in addition to licensed mobile operators can deploy LTE networks fully relying on unlicensed spectrum.

Leveraging robust wireless connectivity, self-organizing, and easy-to-manage features for 3GPP-compliant evolving LTE technologies, MulteFire is designed to deliver higher performance in local area networks.

Huawei aspires to focus on the feasibility of MulteFire applications towards enterprises. By extending the advanced cellular technology to unlicensed spectrum, the MulteFire Alliance alleviates enterprise customers’ concerns regarding spectrum acquisition and further promises LTE-like performance with Wi-Fi-like deployment simplicity, said Huawei.

By working closely with other members, Huawei hopes to formulate a detailed standards rollout schedule and promote the study of viable solutions that may compete with the standard solution from the perspectives of air interface, network architecture, and automatic network O&M.
