Data center network solutions provider, Pluribus Networks has recently unveiled its latest set of Virtualization-Centric Fabric (VCF) services called Open Data Center Interconnect (DCI).
The Pluribus Open DCI solution is delivered in its flagship Open Netvisor Linux (ONVL) platform on OCP(Open Compute Project) and ONIE(Open Network Install Environment)-compliant switching platforms like those from Dell and Edgecore, and is based on industry-standard VXLAN technology.
Pluribus said Open DCI empowers enterprise and cloud customers with an easy-to-use, highly available and cost effective solution that can be seamlessly inserted into any existing network.
According to Pluribus, the Open DCI enables geographically dispersed data centers to be deployed in active-active and active-standby configurations to facilitate a wide range of disaster recovery and business continuity strategies, along with support for dynamic workload mobility. Furthermore, as a VCF service, the visibility inside these DCI tunnels is inherent, making capacity planning and resource utilization studies available at the touch of a button.
The Pluribus VCF architecture is a powerful integrated network services platform that directly supports the modern business demands being placed on the IT function, such as DCI. Pluribus VCF enables future enterprise and cloud data centers to move towards open environments with higher degrees of agility, security, visibility and business relevance.

The ability to stretch the VLAN construct across data centers using VXLAN, and do so in software alone running on open networking hardware, demonstrates the true power of disaggregating networking hardware and software.
