SoftBank-led Joint Venture Wins Bid to Build 350MW Solar Plant in India

SoftBank has won its first solar power project in India via its joint venture firm SB Energy which has Bharti and Taiwanese chip maket, Foxconn as its other partners. The project which is part of the operator's investment worth US$20 billion in solar projects in India, will see Softbank developing a 350MW solar plant in Andhra Pradesh.

Globally, renewable energy outpaced that of fossil fuels in 2015 and a record 107 GW was added through wind, solar, geothermal and other natural sources. Renewable power has the potential to provide every Indian with access to electricity, said the operator.

Nikesh Arora, President& COO, SoftBank
Winning the bid reaffirms the commitment made by SB Energy to commission 20GW in India. Our goal is to create a market-leading renewable energy company, to fuel India's growth with clean, reliable and affordable sources of energy. I am glad that we could open our account today with this win.
