Kyivstar, Ukraine’s largest telco and a subsidiary of VimpelCom has selected Nokia Networks to modernize and expand part of its mobile radio network. The five-year deal includes macro and small cell radio technologies as well as services expertise. Nokia Networks will be providing its compact Nokia Single RAN Advanced solution - Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station and Flexi Lite Base Stations - to modernize the Operator's 2G network and deploy its 3G network, as well as prepare the network for 4G. As part of the deal, Nokia will also include its network management system NetAct and network planning and optimization, design and implementation services.

Kyivstar recently acquired a 3G license and has now begun to offer 3G-based voice and data services to its customers.
