Sigma Systems, the pioneer of Idea to Install, Friday announced that it has joined the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) Industry Specifications Group (ISG). Made up of a large community of experts, the NFV group within ETSI is working intensely to develop the required standards for Network Functions Virtualization while providing the space for them to share their experiences of NFV development and early implementation. The membership of ISG NFV has grown to more than 230 individual companies including over 37 of the world's major service providers as well as representatives from both telecoms and IT vendors.

In January this year, the ETSI NFV group has successfully completed the Phase 1 of its work with the publication of 11 ETSI Group Specifications. The phase 1 NFV specs cover the fundamental building blocks for service provider implementation including architectural frameworks, compute, hypervisor and network domains of the infrastructuremanagement and orchestration, NFV security and Virtual Network Function (VNF) architecture. These specifications have been made available for download at ETSI.

Sigma believes that the integration between OSS and the ETSI MANO will be instrumental to the successful deployment of SDN and NFV implementations. We are pleased to work with the ETSI community to define these specifications.
