Huawei has partnered with industry leading open source providers for Software Defined Networkig (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) such as ON.Lab and Open Networking Foundation (ONF) to build an open SDN industry ecosystem, enabling operators to accelerate SDN commercialization. Huawei said that its SDN solutions will fully support ON.Lab's Open Network Operating System (ONOS) platform and, through a close relationship with ONF and Open Platform for NFV, the company will focus on creating a cohesive, open, and programmable SDN network architecture to meet the needs of operators.
ON.Lab's ONOS which aims to enable agile service creation and deployment at scale on any hardware, including white boxes, was launched in December last year, being supported by leading service providers and vendors such as AT&T, NTT Communications, Ciena, Fujitsu, Huawei, Intel and NEC, with Cisco and SK Telecom coming onboard last month.
Huawei is a founding member of ONOS and has made significant contributions to the organization’s development. ONOS will continuously respond to operator requirements, partner with Huawei to optimize the open source control platform, and promote the openness and healthy development of the industry ecosystem by placing benefits to operators at the forefront.
SDN openness and innovation will be a huge motivator behind industry development, requiring the joint efforts of numerous stakeholders. Huawei will contribute with operator requirements to the ONOS core architecture. We will enrich southbound and northbound interfaces, and actively provide open source code to support ONOS with adapting to various SDN scenarios and build an open and healthy industry ecosystem.
