Juniper Networks has announced that it is virtualizing its top selling MX router platform which enables service providers to deploy its Junos Operating System (OS) virtual routing engine at low initial cost and faster deployment time. Juniper Networks said that its new vMX virtual router operates consistently in feature and functions as the hardware-based MX router platform and can be deployed in tandem with the latter, allowing businesses to work more autonomously from day one. The new vMX also offers scalability with options to start small and the ability respond swiftly to subsequent increases in demand.
Service providers can now simply spin a vMX up on an x86 server and carry out the service upgrade, said Juniper Networks, enabling service providers to leverage the cloud model to optimize their infrastructure by provisioning the extra unused capacity to other clients.
