OT and Cumulocity Partnership To Accelerate Innovation in M2M solutions for Mobile Operators

Newer technologies and solutions in the M2M sphere will be key in enabling mobile operators to offer Internet-of-Things (IoT) services to their enterprise and retail clients, especially with the rapid growth in the consumer devices and industrial machines that are becoming 'connected'.

A leading player in this IoT segment, Oberthur Technologies (OT), which provides digital security solutions for the mobility space, announced its partnership with Cumulocity, a leading ‘Internet-of-Things’ (IoT) platform provider as part of its strategy to expand its M2M portfolio. OT said in its statement that the acquisition will enable them to offer an application enablement and objects management platform that OEMs, M2M/IoT enterprises and mobile operators can leverage to launch service offerings, integrating OT's platform into their IT infrastructure. According to OT, its solution will enable users to remotely control and automate the management of connected devices and manage these in real-time including remote configuration and software updates or real-time alerts, and easily develop business applications.

OT also said that the solution has the flexibility to cater for a wide variety of cases including fleet management, asset tracking, industrial remote maintenance and surveillance as well as the Big Data applications.

Connected objects are expected to reach tens of billions by 2020. OT’s comprehensive, robust and flexible M2M offer is designed to help our customers tackle the challenges and seize the full benefits of upcoming Internet of Things growth while addressing the very important security aspects related to IoT. By joining forces with Cumulocity we are extending our offer beyond connectivity and security and moving up the M2M value chain.

-    Marek Juda, Managing Director of the Solutions Business Unit at OT

The industry is moving from utilizing M2M technology purely for productivity gains to fully leveraging the innovating power of Internet technology. The ‘Internet of Things’ is going to be based on open cloud platforms to integrate real time machine and sensor data with existing IT systems, mash-ups of Internet services and new applications. Cumulocity terms this industry transition ‘Connect to Innovate’. In close collaboration with OT, our customers will be able to capitalize on the IoT based on secure, mobility-oriented and highly extensible Software-as-a-Service offerings."
