A1 Bulgaria, part of the A1 Group, has chosen Nokia as the main supplier of equipment for its radio access network (RAN) in the country, including 5G.

Nokia provides the A1 with AirScale equipment, which now offers business and private customers super-fast broadband internet access with very low latency. The deal is a natural continuation of the long-standing partnership between A1 and Nokia. A1 Bulgaria is the first operator in the world to test the new generation Compact Active Antennas solution, which provides unique opportunities to expand coverage, improve the quality of services and their efficiency, as well as optimize the physical space used.

A1 uses Nokia's new generation of active antennas in Sofia for its 2G, 3G and 4G network. Active antennas combine the best technologies in terms of wireless data transmission and antennas to increase broadcasting efficiency, base station capacity and signal range. In addition, Nokia's active antennas are energy efficient and compact, making them easier to install, especially in densely populated urban areas. The 5G network of A1 has been operating for more than half a year in Bulgaria. Nokia's 5G radio portfolio is being used to deploy the country's largest 5G network, which provides gigabit download speeds and low latency.

Todor Tashev, Senior Director of Network and Services at A1 Bulgaria
We have many interesting years ahead of us in which we will create new solutions to meet customer needs - starting from mixed (Non-standalone - NSA) networks and later moving to private networks, ultra-low latency and massive communication between machines.

Peter Vukovic, VP of Mobile Networks for Europe, Nokia
We are honored to have been selected by A1 Bulgaria as their partner in building their national 5G network, which uses our AirScale 5G radio network solution.
