Ericsson and Taiwanese leading operator Far EasTone (FET) have signed a agreement to expand the long-term partnership from network technology evolution to business partnership, to cultivate 5G new economy and an ecosystem.

The partnership will focus on cementing Taiwan’s positioning at the forefront of the digital economy and driving 5G monetization opportunities. As part of the agreement, Ericsson will support the expansion of FET’s 5G Lab to conduct new advanced technology trials and demonstrations, such as 5G network slicing, edge computing, private networks, fixed wireless access and network exposure functions.

FET and Ericsson will leverage 5G Lab as an innovation platform for network evolution, catering for future network demands.

A joint AI Lab for network automation performance and efficiency trials will also be constructed. In addition, FET is set to take part in the Ericsson Startup 5G program, which introduces operators to technology innovation partners to develop next-generation 5G consumer use cases. FET will be able to tap into Ericsson’s ConsumerLab research and analytical data, as well as gain exclusive access to a worldwide network of 5G startups.

The new MoU will build on the successful partnership between Ericsson and FET— which has spanned commercial 5G, standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) 5G, dual-mode 5G core solutions, and voice over LTE (VoLTE) services — by extending beyond a solely technology focus to include a greater business partnership and advisory component, supporting FET’s main focus areas of big data, AI, and IoT.

Chee Ching, President of Far EasTone
