Italian communications service provider, TIM will expand and upgrade its existing IMS network for both fixed and mobile services using Ericsson’s IMS solution, announced Ericsson this week.

The solution will enable TIM to expand its Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and broadband telephony services to most of its customer base. The decision by TIM to extend its Ericsson IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) partnership is already delivering results, said Ericsson.

TIM teamed up with Google to launch an innovative service in June, allowing customers to make voice calls through Google Nest voice-controlled devices. The service launched in June enables consumers to make outbound voice calls with Google smart displays and smart speakers using the same phone number as their smartphone subscription.

Ericsson’s IMS solution is designed to bring compelling voice and communication services for both consumer and enterprise users over any access network, for any device type. We look forward to working closely with TIM to launch more innovative voice services with ease and fast-time-to market.
