Openwave Mobility has launched a new initiative: The Mobile Video Industry Council (MVIC) and is organizing an exclusive event for mobile operators in London on October 18 to bring together thought leaders and innovators in the mobile video space.

The event, which is complimentary for Mobile Operators and which includes paid-for accommodation at the Tower Hotel in London will explore strategies, the latest trends, and the impact that mobile video will have on 5G networks and beyond.

Indranil Chatterjee, SVP of Products, Sales & Marketing, wrote in a blog post that, "There’s no denying that mobile video has become the killer app for subscribers. But as mobile operators plan to deploy 5G networks, it is poised to become a network killer as well. With the rise of OTT proprietary protocols, most video traffic today is encrypted. By the end of 2018, video is expected to account for 62 percent of all mobile traffic, with up to 50 percent of it in HD format. As a result, operators are struggling to manage Quality of Experience (QoE). With the increased speed enabled by 5G, subscribers’ appetite for mobile video will only accelerate, making this situation worse and leading to increased churn."

According to Openwave Mobility, the event will enable Mobile Operator representatives to:

 - Connect with peers — This gathering of mobile operator personnel and industry influencers will allow networking with key players who are facing similar challenges, allowing attendees to engage in relevant discussions and expand their professional network.

 - Learn successful video strategies — Attendees will have access to exclusive insight from thought leaders and mobile operator case studies, and will be able to learn how to overcome their challenges and how to manage and monetize mobile data.

 - Benefit from exclusive video data — Attendees will also have access to exclusive data from live operator networks, which in turn enables them to learn about the latest innovations and gain a better understanding of current and future trends in mobile video traffic.

 - Prepare for the deluge of 5G video — Attendees can also compare notes and discuss the strategies for managing the RAN to pave the way for 5G while hearing how others are preparing to monetize video in preparation for 5G.

To take a closer look at the MVIC agenda, interested professionals from Mobile Operators can go to the event page where they can register for an invitation.
