Altiostar Unveils Open vRAN Development Platform

Altiostar, Wenesday announced the release of an Open vRAN Development Platform, which allows independent radio equipment manufacturers to develop a virtualized RAN solution utilizing Altiostar vRAN technology.

Altiostar’s Open vRAN Development Platform includes all of the RAN software, virtual baseband unit (vBBU) and drivers needed for any RAN equipment manufacturer to integrate their RRUs with an established vRAN solution in a short period of time. Also, with this approach, mobile operators can deploy vRAN on their existing infrastructure, making use of their existing, deployed RRUs, thereby reducing development time, risk and cost.

Altiostar said its vRAN is a cloud-based radio access network that features a standard Ethernet interface and transforms mobile communication functions into Virtual Machines (VM) to be implemented on general-purpose servers, and integrated within the cloud. Its flexible and scalable architecture enables efficient management of increased mobile traffic as well as rapid changes through the introduction of SON (Self Organizing Network) functionality.

With Altiostar vRAN, it is possible to take advantage of all LTE-Advanced functionalities including Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and Mobile Edge Computing (MEC), by coordinating signals from various radio base stations (Carrier Aggregation inter-site and COMP inter-site), using a centralized and virtualized infrastructure, said the company. Furthermore, Altiostar vRAN provides a foundation for 5G New Radio (NR) by applying general IT technologies to an interface as well as baseband processing.

Ash Dahod, President and CEO of Altiostar
Based on recent industry reports, the network virtualization market is set to grow at 46% CAGR and reach $18 billion by 2020. As the world’s first and only provider of vRAN technology, Altiostar recognized the benefits that network virtualization provides early on. With the release of our Open vRAN Development Platform, we are able to expedite the deployment of network virtualization and software defined networks independent of radio equipment.
