Nokia, Wednesday announced the launching of the Nokia Femtocell Multi-band SOHO, a multi-standard femtocell platform designed for the SOHO that features the Qualcomm FSM 99xx chipset. The newly introduced chipset for small cells will use Licensed Assisted Access -- or LTE-Unlicensed -- to take advantage of unlicensed bands.

The new Femtocell Multi-band SOHO platform is currently in production and operator trials are now underway in several regions around the world. Commercial products will be available later in 2017, said Nokia.

The new multi-standard solution builds upon the Nokia's Femtocell Multi-band Residential (9961 Multi-Standard Home Cell V1) platform and extends the capabilities of residential products to SOHO deployments, which includes small enterprises, coffee shops, restaurants, small hotels and more. It is designed to enable Ethernet-powered femtocells capable of supporting 32 UMTS and up to 64 LTE device users simultaneously, to ease the transition from 3G to 4G or 2x LTE bands in combination for faster LTE data rate.

According to Nokia, the Femtocell Multi-band SOHO will be available in frequency band combinations supporting Latin America, Europe, North American and Asia Pacific. The platform includes easy-to-use integrated solutions that support advanced connectivity features, such as self-organization, self-optimizing, Plug and Play over standard Ethernet connections, and VoLTE.

Jyoti Boppana, Head of Femto Product Management, Nokia
The Femtocell Multi-band SOHO is a self-deploying, highly flexible and high-performance solution for operators to bring coverage and high capacity in smaller indoor enterprise and public indoor environments. In the evolution towards ultra-dense networks, indoor deployments will ramp up and we see Femtocell Multi-band SOHO as a key tool to cost-effectively help operators in enterprise customer buildings and small public indoor locations.

Nick Karter, VP, Product Management, Qualcom
We are proud to be the multi-mode baseband and RF platform provider to Nokia with the delivery of a comprehensive end-to-end solution. Working together with Nokia has given us the opportunity to develop system-level innovation and tackle the most vexing design challenges for indoor deployments to improve voice, data coverage and capacity.
