Verizon Brings Back Unlimited Data Plan

Beginning today, the largest wireless provider in the US, Verizon will be offering an introductory plan that gives users unlimited data on smartphone and tablet for $80 a month, bundling data, talk and text with paper-free billing and AutoPay. Verizon last offered unlimited data to its customers in 2012 before killing the plans in favor of tiered data buckets.

With the offer, Verizon joins the likes of Sprint and T-Mobile to win new customers and retain its existing customers. There is also an option for $45 per line for four lines for the same plan. With Verizon Unlimited, users also get HD video streaming, Mobile Hotspot, calling and texting to Mexico and Canada and up to 500 MB/day of 4G LTE roaming in Mexico and Canada.

To ensure a quality experience for all its customers, after 22GB of data usage on a line during any billing cycle, Verizon may prioritize usage behind other customers in the event of network congestion. Verizon said network management is a crucial tool that benefits all Verizon customers, although it does not expect to do that often. Verizon however would not downgrade the quality of streaming video for unlimited plan users.

Ronan Dunne, President, Verizon Wireless Division
We’ve built our network so we can manage all the activity customers undertake. Everything we’ve done is to provide the best experience on the best network – and we’ve built it for the future, not just for today. We also fundamentally want you to have more choice. We’re not limiting you to a single plan. If you don’t need unlimited data, we still have 5 GB, S, M, and L Verizon plans that are perfect for you.
