Deutsche Telekom becomes the latest operator to launch WiFi Calling service for its mobile customers in Germany, enabling them to make and receive calls/texts on their smartphones via any public or private WiFi hotspot in the country or abroad. The new service is expected to further boost in-building mobile coverage, especially in underground or basement areas allowing users to continue their calls without interruption.

The service which comes without additional monthly charges will cost customers the same as calls and texts from Germany. Users of the Samsung GalaxyS6 and GalaxyS6 edge will be the earliest to enjoy the service with support for more smartphones models being planned over the next few months. When customers are on roaming, calls to other countries are billed as if the call was being made from Germany to the other country.

Deutsche Telekom recommends at least 100KB bandwidth for the service to work satisfactorily. The service works natively on the supported models without the need to install an additional app.
