KDDI of Japan is partnering Lookout, the provider of mobile security solutions to deliver customers a single, easy-to-use solution that can locate, wipe or lock their lost phone remotely. Lookout is a cloud-based application that enables owners of mobile devices to ensure that in the event that their devices are misplaced or stolen, they can take control of the information stored in their devices - including emails, pictures, personal data, financial data, social media accounts, web-based application access and contact lists - by locking access, deleting the content and identifying the location of the device.
According to Lookout which already has 50 million users worldwide, KDDI joins other major operators around the globe including AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, EE, Orange and Deutsche Telekom in selecting Lookout as the partner for ensuring the safety and security of their subscribers' personal information as well as their devices. At present, 2 million of 40 million KDDI's subscribers are already using the Lookout application.
In their joint statement, KDDI and Lookout said that the partnership will enable KDDI which is the second largest mobile operator in Japan to offer its subscribers who are on its Smartpass and au Smart Support access to around the clock assistance to help them use Lookout. All they need to do is call 113 on a mobile device or 0077-7-113 from a landline. With this service, KDDI will become the only mobile operator in Japan to offer customers support for locating their devices through its customer support center, it added.
""More than two million people in Japan already protect their phones with Lookout," said Jim Dolce, Lookout CEO. "This footprint, together with our newly formed partnership with KDDI, positions Lookout for continued expansion in this highly strategic market. We look forward to providing Japanese users the security needed to keep their devices and everything on them safe."
