Service Providers are ensuring that mobile phone usage during driving does not pose a danger to the driver. Belgacom is taking the lead in this area, supporting a recent campaign launched by the Belgian Traffic Safety Institute (IBSR).

The campaign, popularly known as the "bip bip boum boum" aims at increasing the awareness among the public on the dangers of using the mobile phone while driving and highlights in detail via its official website the ways on how drivers can better control the use of their mobile phones while they are on their road.

According to IBSR, although 90% of drivers consider using a mobile while driving unacceptable, one in three still text while driving. In a statement, Belgacom cited a study that estimates that 20 to 30% of accidents are caused by using a mobile phone while driving. Belgacom said that calling increases the risk of accidents by 4 times and messaging by 23 times.
