Swiss mobile operator, Sunrise announced plans to launch VoLTE service, following its launch of WiFi Calling in spring this year, which improves reception inside buildings and allows for faster call setup and fewer dropped calls.

The Operator also announced that by the end of 2018, it will remove the old 2G technology to accelerate the expansion of 4G and 4G+ for its customers. It plans to refarm the 2G spectrum as it increases bandwidth and expands 4G coverage across 92% of Switzerland by the end of the year.

Existing 2G customers will benefit from attractive upgrade offers, and business customers will receive assistance when making the changes to ensure that their solutions benefit from the very best network quality, said Sunrise in a statement.

According to Sunrise, as most providers expands their 4G mobile networks by mainly using 1800 MHz spectrum, it on the other hand, focused primarily on 800 MHz spectrum for its 4G network. 800 MHz and other lower frequency spectrum bands have clear advantages for full 4G coverage and reception inside buildings.
