AT&T to Expand 4G LTE Coverage in Texas with Peoples Wireless' 700 MHz Spectrum

FCC has granted approval to AT&T Mobility to purchase two lower-band (under 1 GHz) block licenses from Peoples Wireless in Texas. Peoples Wireless provides fixed wireless broadband internet and has coverage in 38 cities and towns across Texas.

The watchdog body has approved 24 MHz of contiguous, paired 700 MHz spectrum to be used in 17 counties across Texas, giving the operator more than one-third of the low-band spectrum in these markets. FCC said that the spectrum award poses little risk of harming wireless competition.

This will give AT&T the much needed 10x10MHz spectrum to provide LTE-Advanced service and to expand its coverage in these markets.
