With MWC Barcelona set to take place at the Fira Gran Via next week, Ariana Lynn, Principal Analyst at The Fast Mode spoke to Andrew De La Torre, Group Vice President of Technology at Oracle Communications on the company's participation at the event.

Ariana: What are some of the key themes/focus of this year's MWC?

Andrew: On par with the theme, Future First, Oracle will offer a forward look into the technology advancing our industry at MWC.

Ultimately at MWC we want to showcase how Oracle can help service providers monetize their 5G investments. Whether that’s how they can design, fulfill, assure, and bill for new 5G services or how they can engage with partners to co-create new innovative services with their 5G SA investment and drive incremental revenues.

This means our focus will be on enabling new business models and revenue streams through end-to-end automation, the creation of a developer ecosystem of APIs and the industrialization of cloud native networks.

Ariana: What are some of the events that Oracle has lined up? Any showcases?

Andrew: Oracle’s presence at MWC will include four showcases – beginning by demonstrating the power of cloud automation with a single-click deployment of a fully integrated 5G network in a matter of minutes. Next, we’ll show CSPs how to enable the flexibility needed to access new business models with an example of co-creation of unique product offerings in a racetrack venue. In our third showcase, we will bring together real-time communications enablement and IoT management to help CSPs better solve critical industry challenges and create value and differentiation for themselves beyond connectivity, identifying the opportunity within food and beverage. Lastly, we’ll bring attendees virtually to the Oracle Industry Lab in Chicago where we will employ IoT and AI to help optimize telco resources and operations.

Ariana: What's the outlook for telecoms, specifically the mobile industry in the next 12 months?

Andrew: The current telecommunications market is at an inflection point, and in order to succeed CSPs will need to move beyond “doing things the way they’ve always been done” to embrace the transformation. As the telecoms value chain transforms under pressure from cloud native technologies, service providers are increasingly looking for new revenue streams through B2B go-to market models. Programmable networks and open platforms are key to supporting the digital services enabled by these models. This will require planning for, and launching, 5G standalone networks with cloud native foundations, as well as the ability to access and interpret 5G data intelligently and monetize new revenue streams.

We anticipate a significant shift in the way service providers are driving revenue as they seize the opportunity to support new enterprise and industry-specific use cases.
