In the run-up to DTW23 - Ignite, Ariana Lynn, Principal Analyst at The Fast Mode spoke to Giulia Acchioni, Co-founder and COO of ZIM Connections, the UK's first eSIM marketplace, on the company's plans for the event.

Ariana: What products/solutions will ZIM Connections be showcasing at DTW23? Can we expect to see any new launches?

Giulia: We’re going to be showing off a new version of ZIM the app, to attendees. We’ll guide them through installing it, browsing our catalogue of over 190 destinations, choosing an eSIM plan that suits them and purchasing it.

Of course, we’ll also chat about the revolutionary eSIM technology, which is a solution for travellers looking to stay connected wherever they go. With eSIM technology, data plans can be purchased and installed digitally without the need for switching out your physical SIM. It brings you peace of mind, knowing that you don’t need to worry about connectivity on your travels.

Ariana: What are some emerging trends and technologies that you expect will power digital transformation in the telco space in the next year?

Giulia: It's an exciting time for the telecommunications industry, with several key trends and technologies set to redefine how we communicate.

AI has emerged and rapidly become an influential technology, and we believe it will affect telecommunications in a big way. As data analytics and machine learning become increasingly sophisticated, we expect to see AI optimizing network operations, predictive maintenance, and even customer service interactions.

Of course, we also expect the use of eSIM technology to spread, the data and research supports our theory. eSIMs offer the ability to switch between carriers and plans seamlessly, making it extremely versatile.

Now, couple that with 5G internet, and you’ve got AI algorithms, and 5G-enabled eSIMs operating on high-speed networks.

Ariana: Are there any speaking opportunities that ZIM Connections will be taking part in? What are some of the key points that you plan to cover?

Giulia: Well, firstly, we’ll be in the "Next20 Area" at stand number 4, where we welcome attendees to come say hi and learn more about the transformative power of eSIM technology.

We are also excited to participate in the pitching session at 1pm on Wednesday, the 20th of September, where we aim to drive home some fundamental points about eSIM technology that we believe are game-changers in the telco space.

eSIM is inevitable. The data doesn't lie, its adoption and usage are on an exponential rise. In fact, over 14 billion eSIM-compatible devices are projected to be shipped by 2030.

Unlike traditional SIM cards that contribute to 20k tons of waste every year, eSIM is a sustainable solution that's healthy for our planet.

And finally, peace of mind. Imagine travelling internationally without the hassle of hunting down a local SIM or worrying about pricey roaming charges. That level of comfort and security is priceless.

Giulia Acchioni is half Spanish and half Italian but was born and raised in Brussels, Belgium. At the age of 18, she went to study Economics in the UK. Following that, she studied for a Master's in Sustainability in Hong Kong and an MBA at the EAE Madrid Business School. About a year and a half ago, she decided to begin the adventure of entrepreneurship together with her co-founder Irina Gheorghiu. With a team of nine and a first round of funding, they have brought the app to market. Its goal is to create an impact on the way people travel through disruptive technology.
