As day one of MWC Shanghai 2023 comes to an end, Ariana Lynn, Senior Analyst at The Fast Mode spoke to Dr. Denis Yip, Chief Executive Officer, Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI), an institute by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, which focuses on four technology divisions - trust and AI, communications technologies, IoT sensing and AI, and integrated circuits and systems.

Ariana: What are your showcases/highlights at the event?

Denis: ASTRI will showcase the 5G applied technologies and award-winning innovations at the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions with ecosystems partners, including Anktion, Astella, COXSAT, n-hop Technologies, Peng Cheng Laboratory and SageRAN. These cost-effective and cutting-edge technologies such as TSN-enabled 5G Solution for Industrial Internet, 5G O-RAN base station, 5G-IAB Enabled by Network Coding, Digital Front-End and mmWave solution, 5G-Enabled Cloud Robotics, 5G C-V2X solution and IoT Blockchain for 5G, enable corporates to enter the market quickly with 5G infrastructure deployment, as well as to drive innovation and support the industry 4.0 transformation.

Ariana: What are you most looking forward to at MWC Shanghai 2023?

Denis: We are looking forward to engaging with more experts, professors and industry leaders to explore the opportunities for collaboration and long-term technology partnership, leading and enhancing the development of communication technology ecosystem as well as the related infrastructure through initiating diversified applied research. Given the emerging demands of 5G technology, collective actions from industry stakeholders are crucial to navigate the challenges in propelling the advancement of digitalization.

Ariana: What emerging trends and technologies do you expect to unfold in the region’s telco space?

Denis: It is foreseeable that a reliable, low-latency and speedy 5G network is indispensable in promoting the digitalization of various industries, providing necessary capabilities and innovation platforms for cities to thrive. One of the examples is our 5G C-V2X technology, which is an integrated solution of smart mobility to improve road safety and efficiency for all the road users. Also, “5G + industrial internet” supports the development of smart factories, power grids, mining, smart transportation and more, which will enable corporates in realizing Industry 4.0 transformation, as well as to contribute to a better smart city development in the region.
