The contract in the mid double-digit million range between Speed Connect Austria and Kontron Transportation for Iskratel optical broadband products delivery and deployment services of their Open-Access Fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network in Austria, has been signed in June 2023 at Kontron Transportation’s headquarter in Vienna.

Many households and companies in Austria will have faster internet access thanks to the Iskratel broadband products developed and manufactured in Europe by Slovenia’s Kontron, a Kontron group company and sister company of Kontron Transportation. The implementation work started at the end of June 2023. Only one month later the first households, companies and municipalities in Lower Austria will be connected to the next-generation optical broadband network.

“We are happy to contribute to a faster internet access for many households in Austria. With our long-year experience as system and service integrator we make the end-to-end project realisation and we put all puzzles together to integrate to best-of-breed network solutions”, says Richard Neussl, VP CEE-DACH-INDIA Mission Critical Networks at Kontron Transportation.

"Sealing our shared vision with ink and commitment, we proudly announce the successful signing of the supply contract for delivery of network components and services initiating a new era of collaboration and mutual success, propelling us successfully forward to the implementation of our Speed Connect Austria FTTH network”, says Antonio de Vall, CFO Speed Connect Austria.

PON access solution including Optical Line Terminals (OLTs) and Optical Network Terminals (ONT) from Iskratel broadband product family, combined with networking equipment and services from our IT Infrastructure portfolio, will play a crucial role in providing Speed Connect’s customers with faster and more reliable internet access accross Austria,” said Svjetlana Kalaba, Executive Director Business Unit Broadband at Slovenia’s Kontron.

Speed Connect Austria is a newly established supplier of high-speed FTTH networks with state-of-the-art standard (XGS-PON based) for rural areas in Austria.
