Telkomsel First to Trial NB-IoT in Indonesia

The largest mobile operator in Indonesia, Telkomsel has partnered with Nokia to be the first in the country to conduct NB-IoT trial on a commercial 4G network.

This trial was conducted as part of Telkomsel's initiative in building the ecosystem of IoT (Internet of Things) in Indonesia, along with the continued growth of IoT devices globally.

Director of Network Telkomsel Sukardi Silalahi said, "Telkomsel saw a need in the market IoT that will thrive in the future. In the world of IoT, the network needed to support billions of machines operated remote to record and translate the data that is then used for a variety of industries such as fleet management and tracking in logistics, smart agriculture in agriculture, control the remote machine in the manufacturing industry and life applications such as smart building (smart home), smart meteringremote healthcare, traffic safety and control on the vehicles. "

Sukardi added that NB-IoT technology is designed to meet this need, providing capacity, reliable and secure network. In addition NB-IoT network allows deep indoor penetration, providing coverage with very low power consumption capabilities of devices. The NB-IoT allows the device to operate up to 10 years without re-charging.

During the trials, Telkomsel and Nokia demonstrated telemetry services for environmental monitoring, where information about the temperature, humidity, and air pressure delivered through sensors connected to the network with connectivity NB-IoT. Testing was conducted using the method in Band Frequency 200 KHz at a frequency of 1800MHz. "This trial shows how NB-IoT can be used to connect millions of sensors that support business productivity, quality of life and capable of facilitating the realization of the Smart City in various cities in Indonesia," said Sukardi.

Robert Cattanach, President Director of Nokia Indonesia, said, "Nokia is committed to encouraging innovation and technology enables us to live with inter-connected. Test NB-IoT technology with Telkomsel is also an important moment in the show IOT connectivity in real life.
