Qualcomm has signed a new 3G and 4G patent license agreement with two of China's largest smartphone makers, OPPO and VIVO.
Under the terms of the agreement, the chipmaker giant has granted both the companies a royalty bearing patent license to develop, manufacture and sell 3G (WCDMA and CDMA2000) and 4G, including 3-mode (LTE-TDD, TD-SCDMA and GSM) complete terminals.
In Q2, OPPO was the fourth largest global supplier of handsets shipping 22.6 million units for a 6.6% share compared to 2.8% in Q2 2015. During the same period, VIVO was the fifth largest global supplier shipping 16.4 million smartphones in Q2 for a market share of 4.8% up from 2.7% in Q2 2015.
