The top two mobile operators in Italy, TIM and Vodafone Italia announced the rollout of voice-over-LTE(VoLTE) interconnection testing between the operators. This will enable customers of both operators to make high definition voice calls using VoLTE and messaging based on the RCS (Rich Communication Suite services) standard. 

The VoLTE interconnection will enable customers of TIM and Vodafone Italia to enjoy clearer and crisper voice quality, experience reduced setup times and share a host of video content, images, maps and files during calls via RCS.

According to a joint statement by both companies, the VoLTE/RCS interoperability between TIM and Vodafone Italia is a major step in boosting the value of innovation on mobile networks, with the aim of ensuring the best possible quality, privacy and security of the content exchanged by the two operators’ respective customers.
