Orange announced that the operator is pursuing its 1.5 billion-euro investment program for its 4G network aimed at reaching 95% of the Spanish population in 2017. By the end of this year, Orange’s 4G network is expected to provide coverage in 1,300 cities across Spain.
At the same time, the operator announces that its spending in total between 1.5 and 1.7 billion euros for the deployment of Orange’s fiber network in Spain (including the investment made by Jazztel). Orange said that four months after the acquisition of Jazztel, its fiber network in Spain reached 5.2 million households, and will reach 10 million in 2016 and 14 million by the end of 2020.
As a result, the company will consolidate its position as Europe’s leading alternative operator in terms of fiber coverage. Orange said that it has increased its FTTH coverage ambition in Spain with the aim of reaching 14 million additional households by the end of 2020, adding to its existing 5.2 million households today.
Both deployment programs, in FTTH and 4G networks are part of Orange's strategy to invest in very high speed broadband networks in order to meet strong demand from customers for content and services.
