Chines telecoms vendor, ZTE has unveiled new ultra high-definition (UHD) set-top boxes (STBs) supporting 4K resolution to deliver an enhanced viewing experience to homes around the world. Making its debut at the Broadband World Forum (BBWF) 2015 in London, the ZXV10 B860AV2 (V2) is a next-generation 4K/UHD STB which will replace the ZXV10 B860A launched last year.

The compact ZTE V2 adopts a 64-bit system architecture with a superior premium system on chip (SOC) (Quad-core CPU). The SOC carries out high-performance complex algorithms and possesses a dedicated graphics processing unit (GPU) to support 4K (3840×2160 at 60fps) resolution for a complete UHD viewing experience. The V2 utilizes the advanced hardware decoding of the H.265 (HEVC) video codec, which has the potential to save up to 50 percent more bandwidth than the H.264, said ZTE. The H.265 can deliver a better quality of encoding, helping operators eliminate bandwidth bottlenecks and accelerate the development of UHD services.

According to ZTE, the V2 leverages the latest Android 5.1 system and integrates ZTE’s Smart Home 2.0 platform, including 3D games, web browsing, 1080p video communication, and second-screen remote control. The V2 can support advanced security and super security, and can be customized to support Digital Rights Management by the likes of Verimatrix and Playready, said the company.
