NEC Corporation is extending its partnership with South Korean Operator, KT to collaborate on the operator's 5G services through joint research, development and testing. End of last year, NEC signed an agreement with KT to jointly work on software defined networking(SDN) and network functions virtualization(NFV) for the Communication Service Provider(CSP) and enterprise markets. Both companies will also make joint contributions to the standardization activities of 5G.

Recently, KT signed a partnership with ZTE to build a 5G test bed in Seoul and has entered into a collaboration with Ericsson to build an indoor & outdoor 5G testbed. The Operator has also signed an MOU with Alcatel-Lucent on 5G, focusing on the development of virtualized Radio Access Network (vRAN) technology.

Additionally, KT has also put forth its vision of a "GiGAtopia", a framework that will deliver 10 times faster broadband speeds, connecting people and all things to the Internet while promoting the creation of integrated services.
