Affirmed Networks, a global network equipment supplier of virtualized Evolve Packet Core (vEPC) solutions, has been selected by LG U+ to support the operator's network expansion and modernization plan, with Affirmed Networks providing its Network Function Virtualization (NFV)-based EPC solution to LG U+.

The South Korean operator that is controlled by the LG Group, said that the company has decided to expedite the development of its vEPC network in response to the growing video traffic demands across wired and wireless networks and to support the IoT/M2M growth.  An EPC based on NFV, in particular, will help the operator to reduce the complexity of network configuration and supports the mobility of flexible operation for different types of networks, including WiFi.

As a result, it enables LG U+ to accelerate new network technologies including LTE-U (Unlicensed) which was introduced last year. LG U+ has already completed a trial test last year with Affirmed Networks and expects to launch new services quickly through the early commercialization of this next-generation equipment and capabilities.

Changgil Cho, CTO, LG U+
We will do our best to enhance customers convenience by accelerating the preparation of infrastructure which efficiently and stably affords increasing traffic in 5G environment and devices in IoT environment where the traffic is 3 times as much as now. NFV allows LG U+ to extend their leadership by accelerating the development and delivery of a new breed of service offerings both today as well as in 5G networks of the future” said Hassan Ahmed, Chairman, Affirmed Networks.
