PLDT, Philippines' largest service provider, recently announced that the company's broadband subscribers reached over four million as at the end of 2014, marking a 19% year-on-year growth. The company claims that it's subscriber base now makes up 56% of the country's broadband users.

Within the fixed broadband business, PLDT said that its subscribers increased 13% to 1.1 million, representing over 70% of the total market, while its mobile business, represented by Smart and Sun Cellular, saw subscribers increasing by 21% to more than 2.3 million and 24% to 676,000 respectively.  

According to PLDT, the company has spent over P34.8 billion in capital expenditures in 2014 as it expanded its fiber network over another 100,000 kilometres and said that it plans to invest another P39 billion for its network this year.

We have seen a significant jump in our wireless broadband subscribers following the “Free Internet” offer in the last quarter of 2014. This is part of the suite of services under our “Internet for All” advocacy which is expanding rapidly,” said. He added that this campaign allows for a wide-ranging collaboration with the likes of Google for Android One handsets, consumer giant McDonald’s for free coupons, and global multimedia player Disney for unique interactive content.
