StarHub Trials Huawei's LampSite Indoor Coverage Solution at Marina Bay Sands

Huawei has announced that it has started the commercial trial of its LampSite indoor coverage solution with local mobile operator StarHub at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands. The solution will enable StarHub to combine the use of its existing frequency spectrum on both 1800 and 2600 MHz bands on a single platform to achieve a peak throughput rates of up to 300Mbps. Besides enabling multi-mode/band operation on a single pRRU platform, the LampSite solution also utilises cutting-edge MIMO and LTE-A technologies and is capable of supporting 2x20 MHz LTE carriers and Wi-Fi.

According to Huawei, for the LampSite Solution, early statistics are promising, showing that the enhanced speeds at the trial site have significantly improved end-user experience. Besides improved mobile coverage, end-users also experience superior mobile broadband speeds, such as having much faster downloads and enhanced video experience, said Huawei.

Lim Eng Huat, StarHub’s Vice President of Mobile Network Engineering
At StarHub, customer experience remains a priority, and we will continue to invest in our networks to deliver a superior mobile broadband experience. We are pleased with the huge potential of Huawei’s LampSite solution, that could allow StarHub to expediently upgrade our indoor networks to cater to LTE MIMO, using new frequency bands like 2600MHz, and the ability to enhance the capacity of existing indoor systems on the fly when needed – all without the need for extensive and costly retrofitting of existing infrastructure, thus making possible short deployment timeframes and quick time-to-market of enhanced indoor LTE coverage.

Huawei’s President of Small Cells Product Line, Zhou Yuefeng
Huawei appreciates StarHub’s help in the successful implementation of our LampSite Solution trial at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands. This allows us to study further how we can deploy the solution commercially for mobile operators, to strengthen indoor wireless network performance and enhance user experience. We look forward to helping many more of our global customers maintain their competitive edge with our technological innovations.
