Kontron, a leading global provider of IoT and Embedded Computer Technology (ECT) and MediaTek, a fabless semiconductor company powering two billion devices a year, announced that Kontron is integrating MediaTek’s Genio 1200 and Genio 700 chipsets into its new modules for IoT applications.

MediaTek Genio is a complete platform stack for IoT, offering brands powerful and efficient chipsets, open platform software development kits (SDK), and a developer portal with comprehensive resources and tools. Genio chipsets are ideal for a wide variety of commercial, industrial, and retail applications that require highly responsive processing, advanced multimedia support, and multi-tasking.

Addressing the needs of Kontron’s IoT applications, the company has chosen MediaTek for expanding its leading 3.5” Single Board Computer (SBC) platform lineup. The first product will feature the MediaTek Genio 1200 Arm-based SoC and combines exceptional power efficiency, best in class Graphics, and AI performance with a large number of connectivity options including dual 4K display and high-resolution camera support. To meet the computing demands of deep learning, neural network acceleration, and computer vision (CV) applications, Genio 1200 integrates a 4.8 TOPs AI accelerator and Genio 700 has a 4.0 TOPs AI accelerator. The chipsets support the latest multimedia standards, 4K displays, and high-resolution cameras as well as the latest Wi-Fi and Bluetooth protocols to deliver seamless connectivity. Additionally, the chipsets have a flexible high speed I/O interface to support 5G Sub-6GHz modules.

Richard Lu, Vice President of MediaTek’s IoT Business Unit
The all-in-one Genio platform makes it easy to develop customized IoT applications that can keep up with today’s edge-AI requirements. This collaboration with Kontron will further our efforts to help companies of all sizes reduce their development costs and speed up time to market.

Christoph Neumann, VP Technology at Kontron AG
The new MediaTek Genio 1200 and 700 Arm based SOCs are exceptionally efficient computing platforms. They combine extreme low power with high Arm (A78/A55) core count, powerful graphics, and computer vision subsystems as well as AI hardware acceleration. This makes them a very good fit for Kontron’s Edge Computers as well as HMI applications. Software support is also a critical decision factor for our customers and MediaTek excels in this area, with Android and Linux including security and mainline kernel support.
