In conjunction with MWC 2023, which will conclude today at the Fira Gran Via, Barcelona, Tara Neal, Executive Editor at The Fast Mode spoke to Shirin Esfandiari, Senior Director of Product Marketing at Oracle Communications. In the brief interview, Shirin discusses Oracle’s participation in the event, her predictions for CSPs, as well as some of the company’s key announcements.

Tara: What are the key event themes that you will be involved in?

Shirin: One of the key MWC themes Oracle is deeply focused on is 5G Acceleration. Communications service providers (CSPs) are working to monetize their investments in 5G with standalone core network deployments and associated services, while also navigating challenges outside of their own industry.

There is an industry-wide shift to the cloud, automation, and digital transformation initiatives focused on delivering superior customer experience. CSPs need the right partner to benefit from comprehensive distributed cloud infrastructure, cloud-based industry solutions and applications that can meet the new standards and service opportunities that 5G and Industry 4.0 present.

With 40+ years of communications industry heritage, global leadership in enterprise applications with multi-industry vertical expertise, and global hyperscale cloud capabilities.

Oracle is helping the top telcos drive better business results.

Tara: What emerging trends and technologies do you expect to unfold in your tech segment in 2023?

Shirin: As one published trend, we believe more CSPs will develop strategies to become a platform company, or Techco, to monetize their networks in new innovative ways. 5G, cloud and programmable networks are transforming the way CSPs build and operate networks and services. When these networks are built with cloud capabilities with modern business and operations systems, CSPs will finally have a powerful automated telco cloud and application stack that truly enables them to power the 5G ecosystem.

Secondly, As we continue to work with our operator partners to achieve their 5G endeavors, we expect to see analytics, automation and service exposure become fundamental enablers in CSPs Telco to Techco journey.

Tara: Can we expect any key announcements?

Shirin: Yes. We have one that builds on the analytics theme. While we know the future of 5G operations must evolve to be insights-driven automation based, we recognize carriers must also scale their multi-generational networks. We announced the second application in our Network Analytics portfolio, the Oracle Network Analytics Data Director which enables operators to flexibly integrate their 5G core into their existing operational tools, even for network functions that are not provided by Oracle.

In designing Data Director, we embraced the cloud native principles for accessing data in a secured 5G network environment which makes it the ideal solution for those who have already adopted next-generation analytics frameworks - and for those who still rely on traditional operational tools and platforms.
