Alcatel clinches major IP Core Network deals with all three largest service providers in China - China Telecom, China Unicom and China Mobile - to cater for fixed and mobile broadband services. The mobile operators selected Alcatel-Lucent’s Service Router Operating System (SROS)-based 7950 XRS (Extensible Routing System) platform for their IP-based core networking needs to meet the rapidly accelerating demand for fixed and mobile broadband access in the country.
According to Alcatel, the 7950 XRS core router is the ‘traffic cop’ that directs data traffic at the heart of an IP network, handling multiple Terabits of data per second. The system, which offers industry-unique benefits in space saving and energy efficiency, provides operators with up to five times the data capacity of other core routers in the market, added Alcatel.
Alcatel-Lucent has won China Telecom's 2014 400G-enabled core router central bid, catering for Jiangsu province and Shanghai city, for two areas with the highest demand for network traffic out of the five bidding areas. Alcatel-Lucent was also selected as the sole supplier for China Mobile and China Unicom's 2014 high-performance Ethernet router central bid.

These first scale commercial deployments in China of the world’s most powerful core router will provide China Telecom, China Unicom and China Mobile, with the increased capacity needed to meet internet service demand in the world’s largest market. The experience gained in China will lay a solid foundation for future deployments of the 7950 XRS across the entire region of APAC.
