Digital solutions platform Globe continues to expand its coverage to areas outside Luzon by firing up 302 5G-capable cell sites in the Visayas to meet rising data traffic in the region.

Globe is doubling its efforts to roll out more 5G cell sites and in-building solutions this year to reach more cities and municipalities in different parts of the country. This is aligned with Globe’s support for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which underscore innovation and infrastructure to achieve economic development.

Due to growing 5G availability, Globe logged 73% growth in 5G data traffic for the first half of this year compared to the same period in 2021.

In the Visayas, Cebu City ranked first in 5G usage, followed by Lapu-Lapu City and Mandaue City. As of end June this year, Globe has logged 2.7 million 5G devices. 5G is the latest wireless technology. Its data signals travel through frequencies across low-band, mid-band, and high-band spectrums, allowing huge speed increases and support for massive data transfers.

This provides 5G users with higher-quality streaming, clearer video calls, more intelligent homes and offices, and next-level gaming, among others. Globe has allocated ₱89 billion for its capital expenditures this year including the expansion of its 5G services.

Darius Delgado, Head of Globe’s Consumer Mobile Business
Many consumers are becoming interested in 5G because of the benefits that it brings in terms of stronger and faster connections, higher capacity for traffic, and lower latency. We are excited to see more people in the Visayas enjoying the technology through Globe’s wider and reliable 5G network.
