The free DWDM configurator DWDM-Configurator.com from Pan Dacom Direkt GmbH (Dreieich, Germany) makes it easy to plan a data center interconnection (DCI) based on a DWDM system. This provides data center operators and IT managers with a powerful tool to calculate a professional DCI price.

Thanks to the WYSIWYG concept, the configurator offers a playful method for DWDM planning. Based on the SPEED-OTS-5000 system from Pan Dacom Direkt, a price indication with BOM can be generated in five steps. The modern web interface allows intuitive use of the DWDM configurator and does not require any specialized knowledge. Upon receiving the sites to be connected, the required bandwidth, service and support options, such as 24/7 hotline or installation, the DWDM configurator calculates all relevant performance values such as data rate, number of channels, latency, power consumption, and required height units in the network cabinet. Further configuration options include an optional AES 256 bit encryption on layer 1 and the activation of a backup line.

Data center operators and IT departments are facing the urgent question how to realize higher transmission rates at lower costs. Cloudification, internet-of-things and 4K video streaming represent growing demands on transmission technology. DWDM systems offer a flexible, highly scalable solution to this problem.

The SPEED-OTS-5000 series from Pan Dacom Direkt comprises a large number of passive DWDM modules with a wide variety of available channel numbers. Customers can start with a small and inexpensive solution that grows along with their need for more transmission capacity and can be expanded easily and without signal interruption.

All DWDM modules are working passively (without external power supply), support data rates from 100 Mbps, 200 Gbps up to 400 Gbps per channel and are completely protocol-transparent. The 19" sub racks are designed to be modular and new system cards can be added during operation (hot pluggable). When fully expanded, up to 1,920 applications can be transferred with a maximum data volume of 25.6 TB per fiber optic line.
