Telenor Denmark has laid out an ambitious plan for the network in 2022.

The Operator said it will upgrade another 1,400 masts to 5G and begin the establishment of a standalone 5G network, expand the fiber network for the masts and finally shut down its 3G network.

Telenor Denmark's 1.6 million customers can already experience 5G in most parts of the country, and now Telenor Denmark is accelerating the expansion and modernization of the network even more. In 2021, the Operator will upgrade almost 1,000 masts to 5G, and in the coming year another 1,400 will be added to the list.

Telenor Denmark is also looking forward to starting the establishment of a so-called '5G standalone core' in 2022.

2022 will also be the year in which Telenor Denmark, after almost twenty years, shuts down the 3G network. At Telenor Denamrk, 3G has in recent years run on the 900 and 2100 MHz frequency bands, but already in 2021, it ended with 3G on 2100 MHz, to optimize the capacity of the network and make the best possible use of resources. At the end of the summer of 2022, the decommissioning of the last 3G on the 900 MHz band will begin, which Telenor Denmark will use for 5G in the future.

Jesper Mølbak, Network Architect at Telenor
We have come a long way in the last year, but we are looking forward to taking 5G even further out into the country. The goal is to give all our customers, no matter where they are, a great experience with a speed and capacity that matches their needs. We do not focus on great gigabit speeds in individual areas, but on delivering an even better networking experience via 5G to the broad section of Danes.
