Oracle and Telefónica announced a multi-year collaboration agreement to accelerate the adoption of the cloud and the development of new communications services for consumers and businesses by the telecommunications company .

Telefónica will migrate most of its Oracle database systems to Oracle Exadata Cloud @ Customer, building a cloud platform dedicated to supporting the provisioning and delivery of new services as well as Telefónica's mission-critical commercial and operating systems,  including its BSS and OSS platforms and applications, business intelligence systems, CRM, billing and revenue management.

This collaboration is part of a multi-year initiative by Telefónica to consolidate the technological infrastructure that supports its communications network on a shared platform based on open standards designed to support its growing portfolio of digital services, including new services around the Internet. of Things (IoT) and 5G, and the services offered jointly with ISVs and partners.

Oracle Exadata Cloud @ Customer is an option for deployment "on premises" of Oracle Exadata Cloud Service cloud services, which is provided as a cloud service managed by Oracle in Telefónica's own data centers, which will allow it to consolidating mission-critical systems on a single platform while meeting data residency regulations, meeting latency requirements, and significantly reducing operational costs.

Oracle will provide a secure and highly available platform based on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) that allows Telefónica to integrate data from all its operations, in order to speed up the development and provision of new services, increase service capabilities with technologies such as AI and machine learning, and easily scale services based on market demand.

Fidel Jesús Fernández, Director of Technologies and IT Transformation at Telefónica Spain
Digitization and connectivity are reshaping the way we work and live, and Telefónica is transforming its business to support our clients in this new world. As we take advantage of these new opportunities, we need to consolidate and simplify our technological infrastructure to become more agile and adaptable, and this is where our collaboration with Oracle comes in.

Enrique Diaz Galán, KAD for Telefónica at Oracle
Telefónica is one of the companies at the forefront of this change, and we are delighted to bring the power and flexibility of Oracle Cloud @ Customer to support Telefónica de España and its partners in providing the next generation of digital services to consumers and companies.
