Synamedia announced that Axom Communication & Cable has gone live with Synamedia Converged Headend and software-based Digital Content Manager (DCM) to enhance its video services in the north east region of India, including adding 177 new channels.

Axom chose Synamedia’s DCM encoding solution because of its ability to maximize picture quality with the smallest hardware footprint using Synamedia’s VIVID compression and statistical multiplexing to drive down bit rates. By optimising bandwidth and latency with content-aware encoding, DCM ensures a superior viewing experience for Axom subscribers, even at peak times.

Synamedia DCM features encoding, transcoding, statistical multiplexing, scrambling, DRM, packaging and advertising capabilities in a single solution. Its easy-to-use interface simplifies the configuration of video network functions across video sources. A microservices based architecture, it offers the flexibility of deployment using private, public or hybrid cloud. Axom is also using Synamedia Video Services Manager (VSM) to provision and manage DCM instances.

One particular feature that influenced Axom’s decision was Synamedia’s ability to offer scroll on-screen display messaging, a regulatory requirement for character support for all local Indian languages. Synamedia also delivers logo insertion for each channel as well as automatic loudness control and high capacity multiplex scrambling.

Dr. Sanjive Narain, director of Axom Communications & Cable
The local team in India have ensured a smooth transition to the new platform with minimum deployment disruption. Plus, Synamedia’s flexible approach to software licensing future-proofs our investment by allowing us to easily expand services and add new functionality as our needs evolve.

Khushvant Kundi, head of video processing in Asia Pacific at Synamedia
We have invested heavily in new compression techniques and advanced encoding technologies and now customers like Axom are benefiting from these advancements. With this new deployment, Axom can launch new channels and deliver premium quality video to maintain its competitive advantage.
