Viettel and Ericsson recently demonstrated the first 5G connection in Vietnam.

Speed test result shows Viettel's 5G connection, which runs on Ericsson products and test devices, runs at 1.5-1.7 Gbps. The connection utilizes the 3.7-3.8Ghz (C-Band) and 27.5-28.5 Ghz (mmWave) frequency.

In April, Viettel installed its first trial 5G service base-transceiver stations (BTS) in Vietnam. The first 5G BTS was installed at Viettel's building in Hoan Kiem District. The other two BTSs are installed at No 19 Duy Tan and at its headquarters at 1 Tran Huu Duc in Hanoi.

Viettel will continue to have other 5G trials in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Viettel plans to install 70 5G trial BTSs in Hanoi and HCM City in June so that it can collect a detailed evaluation on coverage, data and maximum speed to prepare for 5G network planning and design nationwide.
