Vodafone has selected Huawei's mobile money service platform for its M-Pesa service, a new mobile commerce service in Romania that enables users to send and receive money, top-up airtime and make bill payments using their mobile phones.

Under the partnership, Huawei has delivered an end-to-end solution to enable Vodafone to provide its customers a simple, efficient and secure money transfer service in the Romanian market, according to Huawei. Huawei also said that the Mobile Money Platform offers a highly flexible and scalable solution based on advanced encryption technology and carrier-grade infrastructure to ensure secure transactions and the ability to combat fraud with world-class authentication technology. The platform works with all mobile handset models in the market and can be easily integrated with an organization to create a comprehensive mobile money ecosystem, added Huawei.

Vodafone Director of Mobile Money Michael Joseph said: "This is the first time that Huawei has developed a technical platform for Vodafone M-Pesa and we are confident that it meets our stringent specifications to offer Romanian customers fast, secure and reliable mobile money transfer and payment services."

James Chen, President of Vodafone Key Account at Huawei, said: "We are honoured to be the partner of choice in Romania for Vodafone, a pioneer in the mobile money space. Providing the platform for Vodafone to launch M-Pesa in Romania represents a key strategic move for Huawei as it is our first step into the financial services arena. This is a significant recognition of Huawei’s capability to deliver exactly what our customer needs to succeed in the market, our resources and dedication, and our established position as a Vodafone global strategic partner."
