HGC, A1 Telekom Austria Sign Direct IPX Peering Arrangement

HGC Global Communications (HGC), a fixed-line operator with extensive Hong Kong and international network coverage, and A1 Telekom Austria have entered into an IPX-peering agreement.

The agreement, signed during International Telecoms Week (ITW) 2018 in Chicago, is intended to enable mobile network operators (MNOs) and carriers served by the two companies to exchange IP traffic in a secure manner, without traversing the internet.

The collaboration will enable HGC and A1 Telekom Austria AG to deliver greater reach to clients and end-users via the IPX platforms deployed by the two operators. Carriers, multinational corporations and consumer customers served by the two companies will enjoy seamless integrated services, such as Voice over LTE (VoLTE), Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, and mobile value added services (VAS).

Ravindran Mahalingam, SVP for HGC's International Business
We do see more and more network traffic driven by Over-the top (OTT) services and applications, and the forthcoming arrival of 5G will create more and more data traffic around the globe, including traffic between Europe and Asia.

Franz Bader, A1 Telekom Austia Director Wholesale
We believe this new agreement with HGC will enable us to deliver a wider range of services and products for our customers, thus addressing the needs for network traffic in Europe and Asia. The new IPX agreement offers us new opportunities in delivering next-generation services, content and applications.
